(Tea Party PAC) – On Sunday, Super Bowl 55 began as every Super Bowl does with a rendition of the National Anthem, but it was also joined by the so-called “Black National Anthem.”
Alicia Keyes gave a virtual performance of the 121-year-old spiritual, “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing,” which Breitbart news says was introduced in 1899 for Abraham Lincoln’s birthday as a poem and set to music the following year.
Keys also performed the song at the beginning of a season that was packed with features of the Black Lives Matter movement, particularly in the form of anthem-kneeling, something previously banned by the NFL.
This came after a summer of violent riots and very public, well-funded BLM activism in response to the death of George Floyd and subsequent incidents of police brutality.

The two teams playing Sunday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs were present on the field during Keys’ performance, but the teams returned to their locker rooms immediately afterwards.
Breitbart does note that, when the national anthem was played, both teams remained standing.
“The Star-Spangled Banner” was performed by singers Jazmine Sullivan and Eric Church.
The NFL also posted videos of this performance as well as “America the Beautiful” to its feed, but not a clip of Keys’ “black national anthem.”

Poet Amanda Gorman, who read a poem at President Joe Biden’s inauguration, also read a poem for the Super Bowl.
