(Tea Party PAC) – Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has once again proven that the Democratic Party only wants to politicize the coronavirus outbreak and use it to further their own agenda. Rather than working across the aisle with Republicans to create a feasible relief package that can help ease up the suffering of folks out of work due to quarantine and self-isolation, Pelosi has decided to come up with her own package, which you can guarantee is going to be full of pork aimed at fulfilling the liberal wishlist.
Pelosi came out and spoke on this just hours before the Senate was due to take a procedural vote which would lead to a final vote on a bipartisan economic relief package. The coronavirus has completely ravaged the U.S. economy and the bill in question is meant to help repair some of that damage.
Here’s more from Breitbart News:
“From my standpoint, we’re apart,” she said.
Subsequently, Senate leaders decided to delay a planned vote to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said on the Senate floor on Sunday that he intended for the legislation to be bipartisan and aimed at helping the American people.
“What we have is a compromise product which contains ideas, contributions, and priorities on both sides and which could become law as soon as tomorrow,” he said. “In other words, it’s just about time to take yes for an answer.”
Pelosi and McConnell met with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on Sunday to compromise on the third phase of the congressional coronavirus response package.
How deep does the divide go along political lines when folks facing a national health crisis of near biblical proportions cannot put aside their differences for just a few moments in time to ban together and do what needs to be done to prevent the American economy from collapsing?
This is how badly things have become in our modern political climate. People are in serious distress and the only thing that matters to the radical left is getting some of their pet projects pushed through in a piece of legislation that is supposed to help folks in a difficult time. They really don’t believe in letting a crisis go to waste.
Pelosi said that Republicans and Democrats are still “talking,” but that there is no need to meet McConnell’s Monday deadline for a Senate vote on the coronavirus package.
Senate Republicans and the White House have insisted that they will continue to push for the $1.6 trillion economic relief package, which would include $350 billion in support for small businesses and $250 billion for unemployment insurance. The package would also include direct cash payments to individuals around $1,200 per individual, with additional funds going to families with children.
Politico reported Sunday that “it’s not clear how Pelosi’s plan would work — committee chairs have been frenetically compiling ideas for a legislative package, but are not yet ready for legislative text.”
Senate Majority Whip John Thune stated over the weekend that “The Democrats are getting some of the things they’ve asked for. They’re getting what they wanted on unemployment insurance.”
Politicizing this horrific illness is immoral, regardless of what side of the political spectrum you happen to land on. If you’re a conservative, and you’re right to be concerned about the spending and other factors involved with this relief bill, you still need to find some way to compromise and work with the left to get something going here that will help.
However, the left needs to understand that now is not the time to push through pieces of their agenda. A solution that doesn’t overburden taxpayers while also keeping the system afloat is critical at this time. This should not be about politics.
