(Tea Party PAC) – One of the core tenets of the progressive movement is to not let a crisis go to waste, meaning that the left takes full advantage of any sort of crisis situation as a means by which to pass bills and legislation that go hand-in-hand with the agenda they have for America, not even caring about what is happening to those suffering through such an ordeal.
In light of this truth, it should come as no surprise whatsoever that leftists politicians at all levels are using the coronavirus crisis that is sweeping across the country to enact all kinds of nasty liberal policies under the guise of taking care of the people and protecting them from this illness.
Like New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell who signed an emergency order last week that gave her the power to ban the sale and transportation of firearms, totally violating the Second Amendment rights of her constitutents.
Here’s more on this from Breitbart News:
She signed a follow-up proclamation on March 16, 2020, further emphasizing her emergency powers to “suspend or limit the sale, dispensing, or transportation, of alcoholic beverages.”
The declaration declaring the mayor’s power to restrict gun sales and transportation says she is “empowered, if necessary, to suspend or limit the sale of alcoholic beverages, firearms, explosives, and combustibles.
On March 16, 2020, the Second Amendment Foundation responded to Cantrell’s claims of emergency powers over firearms by reminding her that they sued over Second Amendment infringement following Hurricane Katrina and will do so during the era of coronavirus if needed.
SAF executive vice president Alan Gottlieb said:
Following Hurricane Katrina, we sued the city when then-Mayor Ray Nagin’s administration began confiscating firearms from law-abiding citizens for no good reason. The federal court order the city to cease confiscations.
We sued New Orleans then, and we’ll do it again. The presence of a nasty disease does not suspend any part of the Bill of Rights, no matter what some municipal, state or even federal politician may think. While we certainly recognize the seriousness of this virus and its ability to spread rapidly, treating Covid-19 and taking steps to prevent it from infecting more people has nothing at all to do with the exercise of the right to keep and bear arms under the Second Amendment.
Cantrell isn’t the only one taking this sort of action. In fact, Champaign, Illinois Mayor Deborah Frank Feinen also issued an emergency coronavirus order that allows her to stop the sale of ammunition and firearms in her city.
This is a prime, real time example of the left trying to strip away the rights of the people under the false pretenses of keeping them safe. It’s the very definition of trading freedom for security, policies that are being enacted at a time of panic when folks are scared and will willingly give up their liberty in order to allievate those feelings of terror and anxiety.
Coronavirus is a dream come true for the Democratic Party and those who are dedicated to seeing America transformed into a socialist country. We must be vigilant, now more than ever, as the government, at all levels, is chomping at the bit to take away our power and keep it for themselves.
Yes, we must take precautions to protect folks from coronavirus, but the question we must ask ourselves if there is a price that’s too high to pay for that protection. Is it really worth false feelings of safety to give away not only our liberty, but that of future generations as well?
