(Tea Party PAC) – Well, the Democrat senators are gearing up to majorly disrupt the confirmation hearing for Judge Amy Coney Barrett however they can.
Ever the grandstander, Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) says that he is planning to ask her an absurd question when he meets with her ahead of the hearing, showing he has no interest in actually fulfilling its constitutional duty and every interest in making a big fuss.
He said he plans to ask her if she will recuse herself from any cases relating to November’s elections.
“It’s my intention to do so. I think you know my spirit, which is to sit down and meet with people and talk to them. And I’m going to make it very clear,” Booker declared while speaking with NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday.
“One of the things I want to ask her is will she recuse herself…in terms of any election issues that come before us because if she does not recuse herself, I fear that the court will be further delegitimized,” he continued.
“In other words, President Trump has said ‘I will not accept the results unless I win, I’m going to push it to the Supreme Court, and oh, by the way, during the election I’m gonna put somebody on the court as well,” Booker said.
President Trump has not, in fact, said that he won’t accept the results of the election if he doesn’t win. He jokingly said in 2016 that he would accept the results of that election if he won, which could be what Booker is thinking of.
Or maybe he knows he’s just flat-out lying.
What Trump, the Attorney General, and millions of other lawmakers and voters have said is that widespread mail-in voting poses the potential of serious disruptions in an accurate, secure election, and that’s just basic common sense.
Even Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), as BizPac Review reports, has said on Sunday that we need to ensure the results are “clear and legal” in rebuke to Hillary Clinton’s wild statement that Joe Biden should not “concede under any circumstances.”
“Whoever the winner is, if it is clear and legal, that should be announced, and the other party should concede,” Durbin told ABC’s “This Week.”
“I hope to have a conversation with [Barrett],” he continued.
“My larger hope is, is that the Republican Party realizes they’re undermining their legitimacy, the legitimacy of the Supreme Court and that they stop what they are doing and wait until the American public has spoken in this election,” he added.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), however, has said the reason Booker opposes a Trump SCOTUS confirmation is exactly why he supports it: so that there will be nine justices on the bench should any election-related issues need to be decided on.
“[O]ne reason in particular why I think it is tremendously important that not only does the nomination happen next week but that the confirmation happens before election day is because Democrats and Joe Biden have made clear they intend to challenge this election, they intend to fight the legitimacy of the election as you know,” Cruz told Fox News’ Sean Hannity last week. This was in reference to reports that the Biden campaign has hired hundreds of lawyers to help them challenge the results.
“We cannot have election day come and go with a 4-4 court. A 4-4 court that is equally divided cannot decide anything, and I think we risk a constitutional crisis if we do not have a nine-justice Supreme Court, particularly when there is such a risk of a contested litigation and a contested election,” Cruz added.
