(Tea Party PAC) – In response to the siege on the US Embassy in Baghdad on Tuesday at the hands of 6,000 Iran-backed Shiite militiamen, 750 US Army paratroopers were deployed to Kuwait.
They may soon be joined by the 4,000 soldiers from the Army’s 82nd Airborne Deployment-Ready Brigade who defense officials told Fox News have been put on notice for imminent deployment.
Thankfully, while the militiamen in Tuesday’s attack set fire to the compound and chanted “death to America,” thanks to the aid of 100 Marines who defended the facility, there were no American casualties.
Defense Secretary Mark Esper said that the deployment is a cautionary step to protect Americans in the region.
“I have authorized the deployment of an infantry battalion from the Immediate Response Force (IRF) of the 82nd Airborne Division to the U.S. Central Command area of operations in response to recent events in Iraq.
Approximately 750 soldiers will deploy to the region immediately, and additional forces from the IRF are prepared to deploy over the next several days.
This deployment is an appropriate and precautionary action taken in response to increased threat levels against U.S. personnel and facilities, such as we witnessed in Baghdad today. The United States will protect our people and interests anywhere they are found around the world.”
The Trump administration is responding exactly how we’d expect an administration who has vowed to defend American interests at all costs to behave.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called the embassy attack an act of “state-sponsored terrorism,” while President Donald Trump promised to hold the Iranian government “fully responsible.”
The president grabbed a moment to speak with reporters hours after the attack outside the annual New Year’s Eve party at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach. He commended the brave US Marines who secured the embassy in the midst of the attack.
Trump was clear that this incident would not be another Benghazi, making a direct reference to the abysmal failures of the Obama administration to do anything to help US personnel in the embassy attack in Libya in 2012.
This attack left the blood of four Americans, including US Ambassador Chris Stevens, on the hands of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and then-President Barack Obama.
“The Marines came in. We had some great warriors come in. They did a fantastic job. They were there instantaneously, as soon as we heard [about the embassy attack]. They came immediately. This will not be another Benghazi. Benghazi never should have happened. This will never, ever be a Benghazi. As soon as we saw there was a potential for a problem, they got in,” POTUS stated.
In a New Year’s Eve tweet, President Trump promised to hold Iran responsible for their actions.
Trump tweeted: “Iran will be held fully responsible for lives lost, or damage incurred, at any of our facilities. They will pay a very BIG PRICE! This is not a Warning, it is a Threat. Happy New Year!”
