(Tea Party PAC) – Constitutional scholar and lifelong Democrat Alan Dershowitz has poured cold water all over the notion that the Democrats are actually going to manage to impeach President Donald Trump before he manages to leave office literally next week.
Yes—this what the Democrats are pursuing right now, and we’ve got to say it doesn’t look good.
While they appear to have landed themselves a crushingly massive political victory (and successfully stolen election), the Democrats are flailing, desperately trying to punish Trump on his way out.
Why? What are they afraid of? What could he possibly do in the next nine days to undermine their plans?
Aren’t those the million dollar questions…
It is speculated that the Democrats could also be desperately trying to ensure that Trump won’t ever be able to run again for office.
While many on the left have hoped that a Democratic administration would bring criminal charges for Trump, this would also indicate that they don’t have much to go on if this is to come about.
Dershowitz joined Maria Bartiromo on Sunday Morning Futures over the weekend where he explained the actual constitutionality of such a notion.
“The case cannot come to trial in the Senate. Because the Senate has rules and the rules would not allow the case to come to trial until, according to the majority leader, until 1 PM on January 20th an hour after President Trump leaves office,” he explained.
He noted that the Constitution, as he quoted it, explicitly says that “The President shall be removed from office upon impeachment.”
This does not, he pointed out, say “former President.”
“Congress has no power to impeach or try a private citizen, whether it be a private citizen named Donald Trump or named Barack Obama or anyone else,” he stated.
