(Tea Party PAC) – This girl is way too much.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, just days after voting to fund ICE, bashed the hardworking men and women of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement as “human rights” violaters on cable news.
During an appearance on MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show, the young socialist congresswoman accused ICE of international human rights violations (despite clearly having no idea what constitutes a human rights violation):
“The one thing the president has not talked about is the fact he has systematically engaged in the violation of human rights on our border. He has separated children from their families. He talked about what happened the day after Christmas, on the day of Christmas, a child died in ICE custody. The president should not be asking for more money to an agency that has systematically violated human rights,” she passionately opined.
“The president should be really defending why we are funding such an agency when right now what we are seeing is death. Right now what we are seeing is the violation of human rights. These children and families are being held in basically freezing boxes that no person should be maintained in for any amount of time let alone the amount of time they are being kept.”
Rewind to just last week, to Ocasio-Cortez first few days in the Hous, and she voted in support of a Continuing Resolution for the Department of Homeland Security to keep funding ICE and U.S. Border Patrol at current levels.
This vote was clearly a deviation from her normal “abolish ICE” stance, which, to be fair, was mostly just expressed in tweets and not actual policy as she’s been a congresswoman for about five seconds.
The stance is also not popular among Americans, as recent polls show that a majority of Democrats, 60% in fact, oppose abolishing the agency. Meanwhile, about 70% of all voters and 73% of swing voters said they oppose the “abolish ICE” campaign.
And why wouldn’t they? After all, just last year along, over 6,600 convicted murderers and convicted sex offenders who were in the US illegally were arrested by ICE.
