(Tea Party PAC) – CNN has absolutely no credibility left. The “news” channel is getting dragged over the coals by viewers after an incredibly cringey and awkward cut to an Applebee’s commercial during very serious coverage of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Not only is the network lacking in journalistic integrity but they seem to have zero aptitude for tone or tact.
The placement of the ad was so awful that Applebee’s says they’ve paused their advertising campaign with CNN, according to MarketWatch. Ouch.
During live coverage of the air raid sirens going off all across the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv on Thursday, while panning across the city’s skyline, the upbeat commercial popped in, providing a disturbing juxtaposition to the crisis unfolding.
As if things couldn’t get any worse. While the commercial was airing, you could still see the city of Kyiv as they prepared for the siege, in the corner of the television screen with the caption, “RUSSIA INVADES UKRAINE.” Meanwhile, Applebee’s offered fried chicken and beer.

Naturally, the Twitterverse erupted in criticism over the poorly timed ad:

Really, CNN? There's this thing called tone and tact. Look it up. Because your blending of commercials and all hell breaking out in Europe isn't working. pic.twitter.com/yhnag26JQ5

Sorry to cut that off, but we have Cardi B in the studio! Cardi!

Despite the old saying that all publicity is good publicity, Applebee’s made the decision to stop advertising with CNN for the time being.
Intern: Sir, I’ve got some good news and some bad news.
Applebee’s CEO: Ok, let me have it.
Intern: The good news is Applebee’s is trending on Twitter.
CEO: That’s fantastic! What could possibly be the bad news about that?
Intern: Well… pic.twitter.com/fNyVWS1Mr1— Chris Berez (@chrisberez) February 24, 2022
A spokesperson for Applebee’s told MarketWatch they weren’t exactly thrilled with the timing of their ad.
“We are deeply concerned about the situation in Ukraine,” they said in a statement. “When we were made aware that our ad was placed in this manner, we immediately reached out to CNN to pause our advertising on their network. It never should have aired, and we are disappointed in the actions of the network.”
CNN has become a propaganda-laden, opportunistic outlet looking for any opportunity to boost their ratings, even if it comes at the cost of their own dignity, which they appear to have none of anymore.
The network no longer has credibility with the American people. This horribly placed Applebee’s commercial should have surprised no one, as tasteless and cringey as it was.
Dustin Hice, the man who accused Don Lemon of sexual assault, warned the public. Hice said CNN is “rife with predators and perverts.”
