(PCC)LOS ANGELES, CA – In a dramatic escalation of the federal response to protests against law enforcement, the Trump administration has deployed 700 active-duty U.S. Marines to Los Angeles; he put more boots on the ground. The Marines, dispatched from Twentynine Palms, will integrate with federal forces to “protect agents and buildings,” U.S. Northern Command announced Monday.
The move follows a weekend of intense demonstrations sparked by ICE raids across Southern California. Protesters blocked the 101 Freeway, clashed with law enforcement, and prompted dozens of arrests. The protesters set fire to numerous cars and buildings, which continue to spiral out of control. Many civilians have been injured, and evacuations may start within the next few hours.
Additional protests have since erupted in major cities, including New York, Chicago, and San Francisco.
California Governor Gavin Newsom condemned the deployment, vowing legal action. “There is no rebellion, no invasion, just a president stoking chaos for political gain,” Newsom said. The state has filed suit to halt Trump’s order to federalize the National Guard, which was deployed without the governor’s request or consent.
However, according to Newsom, this is not an invasion or rebellion. Then why are the protesters waving foreign flags, shooting guns, and burning cars and buildings while many of the rank-and-file protesters are foreign nationals with an illegal immigration status?
President Trump has not ruled out additional troop deployments and has continued to clash publicly with state leaders. “They spit, we hit,” he said in a press briefing Sunday, defending federal law enforcement actions.
With protests continuing and military presence growing, California officials warn that the situation could spiral further out of control. “This isn’t law and order,” said Mayor Karen Bass” “It’s provocation by design.”
